A brand is a person gut feeling about a product, service or company. There is so much hype on how social media is taking over traditional media, most of us have started to engage in different social media platforms for different reasons, and so are organisations. As individuals we are representing our own personal brand, whatever you do, engage yourself in you are marketing yourself as a brand.
According to NEW AGE studies have shown that 99% of global employers are using social media as part of their recruitment strategy and 80% of jobs are found through networking, this means that as students we need to be careful on how we position our personal brand, it could be about what we update or the kind of pictures we upload this could have a negative effect on our brand and could prevent us from getting that dream job later in life. Online reputation management is very important to Public Relations students or anyone going to a corporate field because it sells you as a person, and could make or break you as a brand.

Organisations no longer rely on Curriculum Vitae (C.V) or cover letters to have background check but they turn to google, hence we need to be careful what we do in public avoid taking nude pictures or pictures while you drunk and posting them on social networks because that creates a perception that you are a drunkard, irresponsible, unreliable and can not be trusted as a brand and who would hire a person like that? Let us use social media platforms in a positive way, for more information on how to be savvy or create an effective brand http://www.jobs.co.za/
so what do you mean that i should act like im somebody eles on facebook while on the other hand im something eles dont you think that is been unethical
ReplyDeleteno i dont mean on facebook only but you need to change the way you live your life , you need to take charge and be responsiable especially when drinking or in public because its not just you but you are represent your organisation and you as a person and that you are a public figure to someone out there
Deletea valid point you have raised, many people are not aware how their facebook page will determine their future in their careers
ReplyDeleteexactly because we tend o think it a thing of the moment but you actually not realising that it will catch up with you later......some things are better left private
Deletepoint taken sister and i think a lot of people still need to be educated about how and when to use social media hence a lot of them no longer use it for good purposes. To represent a company you must be someone who can represent himself/herself very well first hence it is said that Charity begins at home.
ReplyDeletetrue i think we are all in a stage whre we just need to grow up and take responsibility of our actions and start acting as professionals in every thing we do, as simple as our assignments, being early for class and respecting our lectures
DeleteI used to post those nagative pictures you have mentioned on my facebook but from now i will never post any kind of those nagative pictures i have posted before. Thanks for avoiding me to post those kind of pictures because will negatively affect my reputation and future as well.
ReplyDeleteam glad that i could help because this was just an eye opener to me as it is to you
DeleteI used to do that too Marvee but thanks to the sister im done with that. This social media thing helps organisations to know how people feel about their product instantly which is a good thing, unlike in the olden days where people would get feedback after two months
ReplyDeletelol Thobeka now with the changes that occur due to technology i think anyone has access to your personal information so we must use the media, especially social media very carefull
DeleteThanks for the advice it is amazing how thing that we take for granted can actually destroy us.
ReplyDeletethis does not mean we should stop having fun but means we should start taking responsibility while having fun
Delete@Clive you need to act professional because is for your own good. What we say, do or publish is our responsibilty i believe we will be capable of it tomorrow so i second what you say Brenda our social media is dressing us for tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteHas a person thinking twice about the kind of fun they have as young ones can have such repcusions for our future as young adults in the work industry.
ReplyDeletethat is why we need to be careful at all times because what we do might affect us at a later stage
DeleteThank you so much for raising such an important issues hey, a lot of people do not know how to manage their image especially on cyber space...but I really think it would do a lot good job is we were to be able to mange everything that we say. Some people think that if something is amusing to him or her it is also going to be the same for someone else. Therefore we should watch what we do and what we say for they determine what you are, lets take this into consideration espeially us who are in public relations.
ReplyDeleteno one is stoping anyone from voicing their opinions but you are the one who will be dealing with the effects wether positive or negetive at the end of the day
Deletethank you so much for raising such an important issue because people forget that what they do or say today in their social network may not affect them now but later on in their life and may even affect their careers so lets not abuse social networks
